In the last two years, the sector has become a focus for funding institutions. Several leading banks have secured reputations for specialist funding of cleantech and renewables projects, and private equity and venture capital funds are raised specifically for cleantech investment.

Osborne Clarke has been involved in advising business about cleantech for around 20 years. We were instructed on our first wind farm project in 1991, and even before this, we provided advice on intellectual property protection and commercial exploitation to very early-stage inventors.

We have followed and supported the sector as it has matured over nearly two decades and continue to use our specialist legal expertise to advise banks, venture capital funds and cleantech businesses.

With our Osborne Clarke Alliance partners we have been very active in advising on cleantech transactions, investments and projects across the range of technologies and businesses that the cleantech sector represents acting for private equity funds, renewables developers, waste management companies, land owners, owners and licensees of technology and utilities and manufacturers.

Examples of our recent experience include:
  • Listing of advanced process composting company, Bioganix on AIM
  • Advising on power offtake, construction and financial aspects of three 50MW+ windfarms in Scotland for Fred.Olsen Renewables
  • Four investments for early stage cleantech venture capital fund, WHEB Ventures
